Section 3 : HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS

Crystalline Silica (SiO2) 7631-86-9
HAZARD : Low concentrations of crystalline silica (SiO2) in the form of quartz, crystobalite, and tridymite may be present in airborne bentonite dust. Concentration level of total free silica in airborne bentonite dust is variable depending upon origin of bentonite ore, fineness of product, moisture content product local humidity and wind conditions, etc.

Skin Contact : Procedures normally not needed. If skin contact occurs flush with plenty of water. If irritation develops, call a physician.
Inhalation : Remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be administered by qualified personnel. Call a physician.Get medical attention If vomiting occurs, keep head lower than hips to prevent aspiration.

Section 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Contain spillage and scoop up or vacuum. Do not use a cleaning method that will generate dust. **NOTE** In the event of an accidental release of this material, the above procedures should be followed. Additionally, proper exposure controls and personal protection equipment should be used (see Section 8: Exposure Control/Personal Protection) and disposal of the material should be in accordance with Section 13 Disposal Considerations

Wash thoroughly after handling.
Keep container closed. ,Avoid breakage of bagged material or spills of bulk material. Use dustless systems for handling, storage, and clean up so that airborne dust does not exceed the PEL. Use adequate ventilation and dust collection. Practice goodhousekeeping. Do not permit dust to collect on walls, floors, sills, ledges, machinery, or equipment. Maintain, clean, and fit test respirators in accordance with OSHA regulations. Maintain and test ventilation and dust collection equipment. Wash or vacuum clothing which has become dusty. We recommend that smoking be prohibited in all areas where respirators must be used. INHALATION : Acute (short term) exposure to dust levels exceeding the PEL may cause irritation of respiratory tract resulting in a dry cough. Chronic (long term) exposure to free silica containing airborne bentonite dust where levels are higher than TLV's may lead to development of silicosis or other respiratory problems.
Persistent dry cough and laboured breathing upon exertion are symptomatic.
INGESTION : No adverse effects.. PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LIMITS: Where crystobalite or tridymite are present use 1/2 of the PEL or TLV value for crystalline quartz.
